The Price is Right

Popular gameshow where all of the elaborate games featured on the show have just one purpose: to guess the price of prizes.

Although many gameshows with the name "The Price Is Right" went to air in Australia as early as 1957, it wasn't until 1973 to 1974 that Network Ten produced a show that resembled more modern formats of the show (and was hosted by Garry Meadows).

Perhaps the best known version of the show was presented by Ian Turpie (known as The New Price is Right) on Seven from 1981 to 1986, who also had a brief stint on Ten in 1989.

Larry Emdur took over compering duties twice for the Nine Network from 1993 to 1998 and from 2003 to 2005.

Prisoner (aka Cell Block H) (1979 - 86)

Produced by Grundy for Network Ten, the show that might very well have been Reg Watson's "magnum opus" were it not for the runaway popularity of Neighbours. Set in Wentworth Women's Prison, Prisoner still enjoys a cult following today. So as not to confuse British audiences with the Patrick McGoohan series The Prisoner, the series was renamed "Cell Block H".

The theme song, "On The Inside", was sung by Lynne Hamilton and was recorded in 2 separate versions. One for the use of Prisoner's producers, the other a full version which was released as a single and was also included on the compilation album under the Channel 7 label, "Bacon & Eggs".
