Double Dare [Discuss]

As part of Ten's programming shake-up in 1989 came this game show for kids based on an American format where two teams of two had to answer questions asked to them by the host.

Genre Children's game show

Seasons/Episodes 4 seasons

The kids then had the chance to either answer the question or if they think the other team hasn't got a clue Dare them to answer it for double the dollars.

Beware though, the other team can always Double Dare the other team to answer it for four times the amount. Then they'll either have to answer it or take a Physical Challenge.

The Physical Challenge, which were extremely messy, usually lasted between 10 and 30 seconds. Failure to win the challenge causes the team attempting it to lose control of the game.

Hosts over the years included Gerry Sont (1989-90), Tom Jennings (1990-91) and Simon Watt (1991-92). The two announcers have been Simon Watt (1989-91) and Margie Nunn (1991-92).

During Tom's time as the host, he was absent with the flu, so Simon filled in whenever possible.

A spin-off entitled Family Double Dare hosted by a young Larry Emdur was launched in the same year, but the show rated poorly and was axed after just three episodes.

In 1990, a special was broadcast entitled The Kangaroo Cup in which a team from America (The Stinky Shoes) took on a team from Australia (The Slip and Sliders) for the cheaply-painted Kangaroo Cup trophy. America won.
