The Magic Circle Club [Discuss]

Just two days after its rather extravagant opening, ATV Channel 0 opened its doors to the children with The Children's Show at 4pm hosted by Nancy Cato with Michael Body, Fred Tupper, and Alec Finlay.

For those who missed the regular show, a highlights package would be screened every Sunday.

In 1965, The Children's Show transformed into The Magic Circle Club.

Among the characters in the Enchanted Forest were Fifi Bear (John Michael Howson) and Fredd Bear (played by Tedd Dunn). Other characters over its three-year span included Sir Jasper, Leonardo De Funbird, Cassius Cuckoo, and Mother Hubbard.

One day, during a live performance of the show, a set collapsed leaving poor Nancy a paraplegic. This lead to Liz Harris taking over for the rest of the shows run. 15 months later, a miracle occured and Nancy recovered. By this time, ATV0 had cancelled the show. Offers were made by ABC for the series' concept, but were refused.

Instead, various team members then moved to the ABC and re-created the show as Adventure Island which ran until 1973, where it was replaced by Sesame Street.
