Seven Queensland [Discuss]

Seven Queensland (formerly Sunshine Television Network) is a commercial television broadcaster, with services covering regional coastal Queensland north of Brisbane. It is fully owned and operated by the Seven Network. Its centre of operations is based in Maryborough.

Seven Queensland started as two different services (opening dates of transmission in parentheses):

  • WBQ8 (later SEQ8) Wide Bay/Maryborough a.k.a. Sunshine Television (10th of April, 1965) and;
  • MVQ6 Mackay a.k.a Tropical Television (9th of August, 1968)

Upon aggregation at the end of 1990, SEQ8 and MVQ6 merged to become The Sunshine Television Network, and became the regional Queensland affiliate of the Seven Network. The merger also resulted in the callsigns of the two services to be changed to STQ. In 1995, Sunshine Television was purchased by the Seven Network, and became known as Seven Queensland, taking on a generic Seven Network look.
