The Six Network (later VIC TV) was an association of commercial television broadcasters, with
services covering regional Victoria,

Constituent stationsThe Six Network was made up of the following stations:HistoryThe Six Network was founded in 1977 with the purchase of BTV6 and GMV6
(which were independent at the time) by Associated Broadcasting Services, a company
that already had an interest in various Victoria-based radio stations, such as
3MP in Melbourne, 3UL (now 3GG) Warragul, 3YB Warrnambool and 3SR Shepparton. As a result of this purchase, BTV and GMV adopted a unified station logo - a stylised "6" in the
colour banding (similar to Channel Seven). There was also an increased amount of shared
programming. In December 1989, GMV6 and BTV6 were re-branded VIC TV in preparation for
aggregation which would arrive in Victoria in 1992, and also to reflect the addition
of STV8 Mildura to the network as of January 1990. News Centre Six became VIC
NewsIn 1992, VIC TV expanded broadcasting to the other regional Victoria markets of
Bendigo/Central Victoria, Gippsland/LaTrobe Valley and Albury/NE Victoria in competition
with Southern Cross and Prime Television. VIC TV's operations became largely
centralised at BTV6 studios in Ballarat. As a result both BTV and GMV callsigns were
amalgamated into a single callsign, VTV.In October 1994, VIC TV was taken over by NSW-based WIN Television and took on the
WIN branding. Related links |
