WIN Queensland is a regional commercial
television service covering eastern-coastal towns and cities of Queensland north of the Brisbane
metropolitan area. It is owned and operated by
WIN Television and possesses a
Nine Network affiliation.WIN Quensland originated from the following regional stations:
- DDQ10 Toowoomba (starting 13th of July 1962) and;
- RTQ7 Rockhampton (starting 7th of September 1963)
In 1988, DDQ's callsign was changed from DDQ10 to DDQ0, so that the callsign of Brisbane's TVQ
could be changed from TVQ0 to TVQ10. WIN Television purchased RTQ in October 1988, however
continued to identify as RTQ for the time being. DDQ, then identifying as Vision TV, and RTQ
later aligned - despite the different owners at the time (DDQ then owned by Darling Downs
Television) - and in 1990 changed its name to Star Television. Star was planning to become a Network Ten affiliate upon aggregation. However,
WIN Television purchased DDQ, the part of Star Television not already owned by them, from
Darling Downs Television a few days before aggregation was due to take place. As a result,
Star was given the Nine affiliation - the Ten affiliation going to former Nine affilate QTV.
DDQ-labelled transmitters became RTQ-labelled transmitters and Star Television became WIN
Television Queensland. Also, Vision TV was the official broadcaster of Expo '88, held in Brisbane, as it owned TVQ.Upon aggregation in 1990, WIN Queensland expanded its service into the areas already covered by
QTV (Townsville
and Cairns) and
Sunshine Television
(Mackay and the Sunshine Coast)Sources |
